Fun Facts about Albania
The oldest lake in Europe, lake Ohrid, is located on the border between Albania and North Macedonia. The lake was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
Albania has around 173,000 bunkers scattered around the countryside. They were built by former dictator Enver Hoxha. They were built to withstand atomic and chemical attacks. They were never put to use.
The name for the nation in Albanian is Shqipëri, which is often translated to The Land of the Eagles.
